I used to use an empty 'vanish' container (or any other plastic jar with a screw top lid). Worked just fine until I could afford my tumbler.

I bought one of the National Geographic tumblers for £20.00 and it does me just fine :-) Sadly Argos have stopped stocking them but I believe Amazon are still stocking them? x

Hmmmmm, now if I could persuade the dog to chase the container around the garden I think I have a new tumbler *grin*

gotta say that when I started I read an early book on silversmithing that advocated making your own tools as the need arises - and I managed to make a lot of things using pretty basic kit and improvising.

I have to admire the approach of Luis F Moreno ; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SaxXK...eature=related

and the sheer craft of using basic tools.

Don't get hung up on tool envy, a lot of it can be 'nice to have' rather than 'must have'.
