Where in Hatton Gdn would you get nitric acid? I used to stroll into a chemist in HG years ago and simply ask for hydrophloric acid and was given a litre over the counter - no questions....but somehow I can't believe it can still be that easy or that the chemist would stock acid just incase a stranger walked in off the street and asked for it.
I got mine from Walsh's. They have it in 1 or 2.5l bottles.
How annoying is it when you Google for something and find a post of your own on here that's no use! That keeps happening to me these days it seems!
I've ordered the E3 Etching system and was looking for some silver nitrate powder and found myself here!
If anyone's interested Fundametals, fab as they are are will send a converter so the system will work with a UK power supply free of charge. They can't send the copper sulphate though, but that's no biggie. I shall see how I get on and report back, oh and do a review for the guild![]()
What strength nitric acid are you talking about?
I got this - http://www.hydroponic-supplies.co.uk...row-1371-p.asp It's 38% nitric acid. I haven't used it yet, but I know someone who has, very effectively. I etch copper and brass with ferrric chloride, then press the resulting plate through the rolling mill with sheet silver. The best and cheapest resist is thermal - print design onto glossy laser copier paper (must be pure black and white), the use an iron to iron the print onto the metal, around 10 minutes with firm pressure. Soak the plate in water and peel and rub the paper backing off - leaving the toner on the metal plate. (works as a resist for silver etching too) Metal must be well degreased to ensure toner sticks to metal surface.
